La Disobbedienza - ShyRec       2022

Impatto Sonoro (I)

L’inconscio ci sussurra cose ignote attraverso battiti profondi e cadenzati.

Club Atletico - Depths Rec.     2021

Verdamnis (F)

Xaction music

Forms in music are a consequence, from the artist’s past experiences to the battlefield of historical artifacts lodged in the dark corners of humanity’s desire, music is a relationship of all dimensions. Inspired by the movies of Marco Bechis, the Argentine dictatorship, this EP comes from “one of the detention centers founded by the Argentine dictatorial regime to torture political dissenters.”
Petrolio (Enrico Cerrato) is a solo project beginning in 2015. Since then, the artist has released several singles, EPs, and albums, touring all across Europe.
Released on March 5, 2021, through the experimental label Depths, Club Atletico is the brink of starvation, the brink of demise.

Agua Y Tierra” is an avalanche of electric forms, plundering from snow-covered mountains into cold, desolate soundscapes. The deep, thunderous bass swirls our ears; a dark wing has gripped the land. Petrolio erupts sounds into an industrial field, blooming as a call from the distance. Metals silently clang together as the washes of ecstasy, and fear-induced adrenaline pumps the musical veins. This faceless void is repeated, excavating the shoreless oceans washing existence into the flesh of nightmares.

Yet, we feel an anti-hero lingering in the shadows, with heavy drums gliding in darkness, a villain to the senses, but against the methods oppressing its attitudes, conjoining a mélange for these repressive components. The music is entirely conscious. “El Silencio” rings the same blaring service of harsh inner mortality, shredding its body into millions of refined textures. The dirty style, the nihilistic minimalism, encapsulates each organism in the sounds of human depravity. Cleanly distorted drums enter the mix accompanying this dirty electric pulse. The percussions amplify the drudging labor, a hate which abandons the spirit, desolated. These instruments stop abruptly.

Hi-fi hissing advances, swirling around with hypnotic sounds flaring as bright embers, burning by the music’s tenacity—drums advance, visibly clean while the sonic flares continue, elevating our minds to higher ground. I enjoyed the track’s pacing, bringing an eagerness embellishing dark ambiance and harsh noises, all pulsing in the underbelly of friction and growth. A truly inspiring work of art! “Y Nadie Queria Saber” continues this canvas, as Petrolio adds some layers to the foreboding crunch of 8-bit, distorted synths. Jingling and swinging from ear-to-ear, textures and high-pitched reverberations electrify the landscape. Until, a dark force of hardware enters, singing in muffled arpeggiation that supplies a nice effect to the heavy drums, maintaining the excellent introduction while sporting dynastic energies to reign upon the flesh of new, beaten regions. Much like, “2403” where the drums introduce a minimal pattern, creatively maintaining the various harsh endeavors. Especially when a gargantuan sonic blast scrapes the percussions off the musical surface and patiently waits, with stern attitudes, blips of noisy sectors claw at the audio. Drums eventually make their way to the center, but the heavily drenched sonic booms shape a more phantastical dream, holding down a journey that feels it will never reach its end.

Club Atletico is a great album; however, regarding its minimal approach, it never seems to develop from its silhouette into the beast the sounds appear mirroring. Staying, firmly, in the impressions from ‘Agua Y Tierra.’ But overall, Petrolio has a remarkable grasp of thick distortions and how to handle the surreal, electric ambiances, primarily when pockets throughout the album explored more vital aspects of its sound

Petrolio – Club Atletico
